Yeah, I know that I'm late. I went to Frasertown to lend a hand to the mayor. Well, both you and I know that he's not really the mayor, more like the foreman of public works. He's a well mannered foreman though, he says "yes ma'am" a lot. But we'll let him keep his delusions.

Last evening, I was enjoying the view when I noticed a huge white bird off of Glen's point. I grabbed the camera and jumped in the boat. I was only 1/4 of the way there when it took off. So these are the best pics that I could get. I had to digitally magnify them, so they are not too clear. Does any body know what it is? I'm thinking some kind of a swan.

These pics are pretty nice.

I've got no elbow room here, any more. Dave and his son are in, Bruce is in, and the Sullivans too. I think that I've been making a mistake by telling everybody how nice it is here. I only told you that so that you wouldn't feel bad about me living out in the middle of no where. It's always too hot, too cold, too much snow (all year round!). Too many bugs and bears, and bares too. No, you wouldn't want to be here. Really, you wouldn't like it. No, no, no.

We're getting closer to the loons. I think this one is the daddy, out earning supper while momma is home sitting on her butt, I mean clutch.

Going through the narrows, on the way to Frasertown.

Just another shot to make someone homesick.

I got all the wood split and stacked. I don't know how, as I was sick all night. A stomach virus, I think. Hey! Just because I went to Frasertown, doesn't mean I got "tired" again. Gee, a guy makes one mistake in 50+ years, and you never let him live it down. The kind of virus that makes you sit on the composter all night. Sorry for being so graphic, but your the one that didn't believe me. So I spent most of the day on my hands and knees splitting and stacking wood, just so that you wouldn't have to read about it any more. Your welcome. OK, I do have a confession to make and you should have been smart enough to see it. I couldn't reach the top of the pile, from my knees to finish stacking. It'll take about half an hour tomorrow, but I promise not to talk about it.

I've had a lot of questions about the proper etiquette when meeting foreign dignitaries. Newfies are a lot like you, except a lot more friendly. Newfies have a great sense of humour. If you tell them a Newfie joke that they haven't heard before, they will laugh so hard that you wouldn't believe it. Just before they beat you up! They also don't speak English. It's like they have a different word for everything. They pronounce "boy" as bye. And all males are "byes" or "my son". Unmarried females are called "my dear". Married females are generally called "the missus" or "your missus". Newfies do not pronounce the "H" sound. So hat becomes at and how becomes ow. But they do put an "H" were we do not, so that at becomes hat and ow becomes how. The deck on your ouse (did you get that one?) is called a bridge and your dock is called a stage. Pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Newfoundlanders also have different culinary tastes than you. They will take a piece of meat and cut off all the fat and gristle and throw away the meat. And if you can pickle it for a couple of years, they are much happier. They also put pork fat in their raisin buns. That's the lesson for today. If I think of any other cultural differences, I let you know.

Last evening.

-6 again this morning and a light fog on the surface. Pretty calm, eh?

I stacked up some more wood this morning. One more morning and you won't have to read about it any more. Then I mounted the anti-visitor lights, front and back are both covered. Then I installed some cleats on the dock. I put a headlight on the boat, but I don't have it wired in yet. I'm going out after supper and help a lady find her "START" button. No problem Razor, that what friends do.

Last evening.

-6 degrees at 6:30 am

+9 degrees at 3:00 pm

I don't know what kind of bud/leaf/animal this is, but it looks prehistoric.

I went to town this morning. I always seem to go on national blue hair day. Shut up, Rich. I've never seen so many walkers in the grocery store. They should understand that I don't really want to be there, so get out of my way so I can go home. I picked up a couple of security lights so that nobody can do the ninja visit on me.

It's official, the newfies hit the lake next Friday. Yahoo! Cod fish cheeks and tongues and seal flipper pie. Yummie!!!

Last evening.

You name it, we had it today. Rain, snow, sleet with 42 kph winds.

I managed to dig out the pallets and started to split the last of the fire wood. Then it rained cats and dogs. I was just about to make bread when the sun came out, so off I go to split some more, then it rained again. It went like this all day, so I have no bread and not a whole lot of wood split. Off to town tomorrow.

Drunken geese.

If you like your summers not too hot, then I guess this past summer was perfect, if not just a little bit short. Note to Linda, don't show these pics to Jack or he'll turn around and head back to Disney World!

This one will make somebody home sick.

That's the last time I warn people that I'm going to visit. I drove the boat up hill and down hill across the white caps, through the freezing spray, just to find that Dave wasn't home. I do shower once in a while you know.

It was slushy today, so I decided to set up my weather station. I've only had it for over a year. I did have it set up when I was a townie, I just never seemed to get around to installing it here. I put the wind speed/direction sensor about twenty feet up my TV antenna tower. And that's all that got done today.

I took Kita for a boat ride this morning, to see what we could see. Not much.

So here are a couple early morning pictures from Upper Clements, Nova Scotia.

Just another cool, damp day. They are calling for a chance of snow over night. I did see that Dave and/or Sharon are in. I think that I might drop over for a visit tomorrow. Don't tell them or they might hide, like some people I know.

I got an email from my cousin Gord today. He and my Aunt Bessie and hopefully, cousin Don are coming for a visit in May. Once that crowd gets here, they'll probably fall in love with the place and I'll never get rid of them! Just kidding, I can't remember the last time I saw these cousins, probably close to 15 years, I think. I'm really looking forward to the visit. And Gord, you make sure Don gets here, one way or another. I hear duct tape works well. Oh crap! More clean up to do, I better start right now! Later.

Just another dull, grey day here. So I thought I would post some pics of dull, grey days from Nova Scotia, taken on my retirement tour last December.

Fishing boats moored at Annapolis Royal.

Fishing boats at Digby.

The Digby Gut, the passage from the Annapolis Basin out to the Bay of Fundy.

You ladies, women, girls,... I'm not very good at this political correctness thing. You humans with two X chromosomes will be proud of me today. (That shouldn't offend any one.) I defrosted the fridge and cleaned the oven. I'm a little concerned about the oven though. Would cleaning it twice in sixteen years be too much? I wouldn't want to wear it out. That's it for today, maybe tomorrow will be sunny and I'll be more inspired.

Just grey skies today.

Boring report today. It rained, so I got caught up on the house work, which I find rather uninspiring. No wonder all the great doers and thinkers were...No, don't go there Frank, you might not get any more left overs! I had to haul water up from the dock to fill my tank and do two loads of laundry. 15+15+15+15+60= yeah, that's about right, 120 gallons. I can't use the old pump because, as you should remember, Kita ate the center of the water line the last time I went to Frasertown for supper.

I did go and visit poor old "Bic" this afternoon. Poor "Bic", poor, poor, poor old "Bic". TSK, TSK. Not much more you can say about poor, poor old "Bic". He's just a very faint shadow of his former self. He should have about twenty purple hearts by now. See what you have to look forward to Rich?

6:30 AM, thanks for the extra half hour Kita.

Loon just off the dock.

Lorna's ice is gone.

The ice that was here yesterday is gone now.

No ice at the boat launch. That's it, were ice free!

A little tired and sore today. Sore from all the work I did yesterday. Kita might have let me sleep in, but George was a pest all night. I haven't had to have a fire for 3 days now, but I guess George found it a little chilly last night and kept trying to get under the covers. The only work that got done today was to put the wood I split into the wood shed. The pallets are still frozen to the ground, so I can't finish the wood that I bought last fall.

Looks like rain for the next few days. This is probably good timing. I'm a little behind in the house cleaning, again. And since we are coming up to visiting season, we should look at the rules. There are none, you can drop by at any time, day or night. BUT, if we've had 3 or 4 nice days in a row, I might not be up to date on the vacuuming, and you might want to bring your own lint brush. There might be a pile of dirty dishes. If it bothers you, you can wash them up. If you call ahead, I'll try to hide them in the oven.

A little late, but I have a good excuse.
.
.
TADAA!

6:00 AM, You can thank Kita for this one, GRRRR.

They are baack! Quite a few mosquitoes out last evening, see you in October!

I worked my butt off today. My mouth is so dry that I couldn't give a DNA sample to CSI. I split wood for 4 hours this morning and put in the dock and boat this afternoon. The boat fought me for 3 hours and I ended up breaking one of the bunks on the trailer. I then went for a ride around the lake. There are 2 spots of ice left, one quite big one in front of Lorna's and another one on the point west of the next bay past Sullivan's. I'll take the camera for tomorrow's ice report. That's it, I'm done, good night.

This is the second post for today. We are slowly turning into the garden of Eden. Speaking of the garden of Eden, would you believe that some people actually bring the Devil's seed out here? The kind that you have to mow every week? Some things are better left in town.

Raspberry leaf.

Lilac leaf.

Clear all the way to Sulivan's.

When I took the tarps off of the wood pile the other day, I found close to 2 cords that needed to be sawn up. Here's another conundrum; in the maritimes a cord of fire wood is 4' X 4' X 8'. Here a cord is 16" X 4' X 4', or 1/3 of a cord. Is that because up here they think that they can charge more for less, or is it that Maritimers are bad with fractions? Any way, it was a cool start to the day, 0 degrees at 8:00 AM, so around 11:00 I started chunking wood. Yes Tomiko Tina, that was me making all that noise. Sorry for all the huffing and puffing. The temp now is 27 degrees. So now I sit here, close your eyes Michelle, in nothing but my sweaty underwear. I can handle -25 better that +25.

PS; I think that I might have to get another computer to keep track of bookings for the A frame. Hey, maybe this is a way to get it cleaned up. No Rich, you can't have open bookings. As hard as it might be to believe, you are not the only loser out there. We have to have room for the other poor souls. But I will book you for the May 24 week end. I know that you will need it when I finally meet Berlin.

PS; As I look out the window, the ice has cleared all the way into Fennell's Bay!
Where's the ice? Going, going, almost gone. The loons are back, and get ready for this, brace yourself! I saw a mosquioto last evening!

Last evening at 8:00 PM

A beaver swam by. It was crying like a baby.

If you look close in the top left, you'll see the trail of another beaver.

This morning at 7:00AM

This is a reflection of the moon on the water.
