It's time for another public service announcement. This will probably be the last weekend to go sledding. Be careful out there. Know your water ways. Steer clear of inlets, outlets and swamps. Remember to tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back. Don't forget your ice picks and a floater suit is a good idea, too. If you are not sure, don't go. This is what Razor found a couple of mornings ago in a swamp heading into Bear Lake.

Still working at making little ones.

Some one asked if I had a gas splitter. I do, see?

Or, maybe you can't. It's still under a couple feet of snow.

I enjoy splitting wood by hand. Who needs a splitter, any way?

Remember, let's be careful out there.

A couple of funnies to start the day.

Hey! Don't get your mukluks in a knot, spring is on it's way and I have photographic proof.

OK, this might not be what you are looking for. This was this morning. THEY were calling for occasional flurries, but it flurried pretty much all day long.

This guy, Mr. R. Grouse, was strutting and chasing the ladies yesterday morning. So, there you go, this fellow might be a little premature, but it is a sign of spring.

This lady sat in a tree and watched me split wood all morning.

Yesterday, Grasshopper found this one behind the wood pile. Not sure what happened to her. I put it down by the composter and it was gone today. Grasshopper did spot a fox on the property this morning.

Just like Ft. Leavenworth, we make little ones...

out of big ones.

More signs of spring, we have some of the Devil's weeds showing thru the snow.

Some young fella with more energy than me has put out his maple buckets.

The sap is just starting to run.

So, the forecast for this weekend is good sledding, if you were planning on LEE-ving Burgessville. All snares have been pulled up, clearing the way for Da bunny.

No! Not that bunny,

This one!

Who knew?

How did your earth hour work out? Saved the power drain, huh?

Beautiful start to this day.

Beautiful start to yesterday. Sorry Jose, but it was pretty.

Pics from the road to Riches, or, as I like to call it, my church.

Twisted yellow birch stump.

This could also be a study of fractals. I would explain it to you, but your head would explode. You can go here to learn more at your own speed. Click to learn.

'peckers have been busy.

Fresh holes.

Pileated woodpecker, I would say by the size of the hole.

Oh, I just remembered. I had a very close encounter with a barred owl the other day. It was close enough that I felt the wind from it's wings when it flew away. It was a very WOW experience! No camera that day. Here's a pic from google. And a video barred owl

Hey, we still have lots of snow, probably good sledding for another week, maybe two, if you are Lee-ning that way. get it? har, har

Some peeps around here blame me, too.

It's still snowing. Sorry, Jose,

but I just can't get the smile off of my face. Still haulin' ash.

 har,har.

Happy first day of spring. CLICK ME.

So far, this is the best spring, ever! Right Jose?

This fresh snow helps getting firewood 'cause, as you know, it's easier to drag your ash over snow then it would be over bare ground. Of course, some people might say that I wouldn't know my ash from an oak in the ground. Oh, stop me! I got a million of 'em! Har, har, har.

Why did the bush chicken cross the snowmobile track?

To find some seed, dummy.

Grasshopper went to town Monday morning.

and came back late in the afternoon. No, no, no, she didn't drive the transformer all the way to town, just to Bedrock and hitched a ride with Mrs. Slate.

Pics from Grasshopper's camera.

Northern shrike. Doesn't look like a cold blooded killer, does it?

Snow banks in the big city.

I guess that this is supposed to be one of those cutesy pics, but Diesel's embarrassed look sez it all.
