Sunday evening.

Monday morning.

Meet Jake, the newest resident of Tomiko, also known as Jocko to some.

Kita welcomes Jocko.

With my sometimers, it's hard to remember what I did , when. Sunday was a real crappy day, I think. Blustery winds and blowing snow, then it cleared up at sunset. Gee, it's pretty much dark at 5 o'clock now. Yesterday was an awesome day. This week I'm helping the super get ready for winter. Yesterday we did some wiring on the grader and maintenance on our wood splitters. Then Razor cooked up some burgers, fries and perogies for supper. Sometimes I think that if Razor didn't have the cooking gene, Tomiko Tina would just waste away.
Jocko, I mean Jake, is fitting in well at Tomiko. He is one cute puppy. And smart too. Kita gave him the little "I'm too damn old to run around and chase you" growl and Jake understood right away. Too bad Bear wasn't that smart. Gotta run now and head to Frasertown.

C, that is a stop sign on my drive way to keep the one or two people, who manage to find my driveway, away. It's more polite than shooting at them.

Hello my little gas guzzling blog readers. I have my generator running just to entertain you, pretty poor mileage I would say. I'm so confused, you see I was going to post yesterday because today was going to be a fun day. The mayor is away, so the boys were going to play, but plans were cancelled when Razor got called into work for today. The mayor is out of the country doing the Angelina/Madonna thing. Pictures next week. Both the mayor and the road super are off work next week to do the bonding thing. In my day, you didn't get time off for that.

Thursday evening I think.

We had a nice sunny morning yesterday, but it clouded over again in the afternoon. The clouds opened up enough to give an awesome sun set last evening.

Yesterday morning "they" were calling or 25 cm of snow for today. By evening "they" said 15 cm. Now "they" have a winter storm warning alert with 20 cm of snow and 100kph winds. So far today we've got about 10 cm, but zero wind. I'm not quite ready for winter yet. I'm slowly, key word slowly, getting ready. But the boat and dock is still in the water and the truck is still in the back yard. I'm trying to wait until the last minute before I go to town and bulk up on groceries for the slushy season. Speaking of boats, I heard one on the other side of the narrows yesterday. What are you thinking? Don't you know that if you fall over board you'll die in minutes from hypothermia? You see, I don't have to worry about that 'cause I'm half Newfie. We're tough Bye, tough. And since most of us can't swim, water temperature has no effect on us.

Hey super kids, can you find Kita? He crawled under there around 11:00 am and at 3:00 I had to crawl in to see if he was still breathing. He doesn't seem ready for winter yet, either.

Grandpa Frank wants to remind everybody to turn their clocks back tonight and change the batteries in the smoke and CO detectors.

Let's try this again, I just lost the whole post.

Yesterday "they" promised a good solar day and it started out looking good.

But this was the only hole in the clouds all day.

This morning started out looking good, but again cloudy all day.

I think they are burning slash on the new Notman road.

The only problem with posting every second day is trying to remember what happened. Which reminds me of an old joke.

1st old man, "Do you know what I hate about getting old?"
2nd old man, "What?"
1st old man, "What?"

Yesterday morning Kita and I were out side when he took of into the bush behind the A frame. I saw a squirrel run so I didn't think any thing about it. A few minutes later I heard him barking like a beagle. I thought, moose he could be gone for a few hours, a deer he could be gone all day, a bear ???? So I started running down the drive way. I caught up to them near Sand lake and noticed he was chasing some thing small, a skunk?, a porcupine? I stopped running, huffing and puffing and wheezing, and used my loudest sign language to get Kita to come. The small thing jumped into a deep puddle and took up a defensive position. By now the pounding blood was receding from my eyes and the bifocals were finally working. It was an otter. It tried to bite Kita on the nose, but he was quick enough to back up. Kita finally heard my sign language and went straight home by himself.

Later in the afternoon we visited with Jack and Linda and got a bag of lightly used news papers so I have some thing to read.

Today I defrosted the fridge. I figured if the sliding shelves don't slide, it might be time to defrost. I also had to vacuum again. With all the slush and mud, it seems that Kita and George don't wipe their feet and leave dirty boot tracks every where.???

This weekend Shirley is off to Florida for fun in the sun for the winter. Shirl, I do not want to see any tan lines when you get back!

I couldn't resist. I had to have half of the partrige breast and a sausage and a couple of meat balls. Cholesterol is really just WD40 for arthritic joints.

Geese, if I wanted weather like this, day after day after day, I would have retired to the Passage. I just would have to remember, at the N.S. border, to turn my watch back twenty years.

I didn't do too much out side today, the scab on my shin gets rubbed by the rubber boots. (no, I do not want to talk about it!) Another crappy, slushy day. I think I'll start posting every second day until we get some decent sun to charge my batteries. I would rather watch TV than entertain you every day.

C, George is tied up to protect the moose, wolves and bears.

Monday, October 23, 2006

I didn't post this picture of my shin yesterday so that it wouldn't ruin your roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Don't ask, no, it wasn't George. Yes, it hurts a lot more than it looks.

"They" were forecasting rain with wet snow, but...

George whined and cried to out side. This pic was taken about 9.2 seconds later.

Kita, on the other hand was in his element.

We didn't have bread school today, postponed until a later date. I did finish the boat trailer. The menu for the week is spaghetti. It's hard to make sauce for one, so tonight is spaghetti and grouse breast, tomorrow is spaghetti and meat balls, and the next day is spaghetti and hot sausage.

Sunday, October 22, 2006

Yesterday turned out to be a nice day after all. But there is no sun in the forecast until next Saturday.

This is one of the solar lights that I put in the narrows. When I first put it there, the bottom of the can was out of the water. Then we lost all that water, but you can see how much rain we've had the past month or so.

I had a great time with Shirley, TT and TTSK yesterday. I almost learned how to sew, but alas, we had technical difficulties. Shirley out did herself with supper again. Roast pork and sweet potatoes, and something called yuckini? No allergic reaction so far. And apple and cherry pie, and I also got to bring some home. (see, C, it all starts with a cat). And great after supper conversation, except for the two duds, ungrateful so and sos that they are.

This morning I started making new bunks for the boat trailer. I guess I'll have to think about taking the boat and dock out some day soon. I didn't get the bunks on the trailer cause the snow was going down the back of my neck.

Tomorrow morning I'm off to the bachelorette's for a bread making course.

7:45

Short, quick post today. Shirley is cooking supper for me tonight! Well, I guess the future step daughters will be there too, (we're still discussing George). I hope Shirl remembers that those two ungrateful son in laws don't deserve any brownies.

That's not enough sun to charge my batteries.

Around 9:30 this morning, I finally got around to tie strapping the wires for the fog lights. (since last xmas). Kita must have thought we were going some where and jumped in the truck. At 12:30 he was still waiting to go.

Quiet day, no rain but no sun either. I finished up wiring the garage and cleaned up the mess I made. I had to run the generator to charge the battery in the boat. It was dead yesterday, but luckily I have two batteries and gave myself a jump start.

Thursday, October 19, 2006

This is the most sun shine that we got today, besides another quarter inch of rain.

I went down the river to check out the beaver dam. Tamarack trees along the river.

The beaver dam. There is about eight inches of water flowing over both dams, so, if it ever stops raining it will drain down to normal levels. Bachelor girl reports that water is up on the Notman road.

Birch trees along the river.

This is where the lake flows into the river. Usually I have to lift my motor out of the water and pole through this spot. Today I just motored through.

The road super reports that the Sand Dam road washed out at Ben's pond yesterday, but is all fixed up now. Sounds like a beaver dam broke there.
I have lights in my garage now. A few more wire staples and finish another line from the generator and I can scratch another item off the to-do list.

Kita disappeared for a couple of hours this afternoon, the first time he has done that this year. I watched him go. Normally he just goes on what I call his patrol, about ten or fifteen minutes. I was just starting to wonder how I was going to find a deaf dog when he strolled in the yard covered in swamp merde, like nothing happened. See, he can leave me any time he wants but I can't leave him for more than a couple of minutes.

Holy heart burn all day long. I made another super pie last night. Pepperoni, salami, extra hot Italian sausage, Italian meat balls, portabello mushrooms. I love Italian. Remember that one at Fannies Richie? Just kidding Berlin, I think she was Swedish. Any way, see what happens when I run out of left overs? Grouse fingers and soup tonight.

Wednesday, October 18, 2006

Nope, not recycled, same crappy weather as yesterday. We've got anothe 1.8 inches of rain since Sunday.

Whiskey Jack in the fire pit.

This morning I changed the oil in the generator, and the snow blower. Then I installed boxes and ran wire in the garage for lights. Maybe tomorrow I'll finish that job, or maybe not. If the weather improves a little I might take a trip down the river and check out the beaver dam. The water level is very high, no problem for me, adjustable dock, but some docks are almost under water. On my trip to town yesterday I noticed the culvert on the Notman road was barely handling the water flow and the water was close to going on the road. If the dam breaks, we could lose the road.

3:30 this afternoon.

Sorry, no interesting pictures today. I didn't have my camera ready when some dufus with both front fenders smashed in cut me off on Trout Lake road. He then switched lanes and then cut off the guy in front of me. If people out here drove like that we wouldn't have any trees left.......Although I do kinda remember a birch tree that was almost scared to death last winter. Ha, ha, ha. So, my nerves are a little frazzled. I'll probably need a few fortified 7 ups to relax me tonight. I even went to the produce part of a grocery store but there wasn't any one around to explain what all the green, yellow and red stuff was.

C, it's a ruffed grouse, sometimes called a partrige. We fall back on Oct 29

Monday, October 16, 2006

Sun sets are happening so early now that I almost missed this one as I was logging off the blog yesterday at 6:20.

Sun rise today.

The ripples are from fish jumping. For the past week or so, the fish have been jumping a lot, probably fattening up for winter.

What a great start to the work week, chuckle, chuckle.

Actually, I probably accomplished more than you did, you over paid bums, especially you boobs at "Frantic". First I dug out the Yammie. It was buried under enough stuff that I might use for the next three or four reincarnations. Then I washed the Notman road off of it. If you remember, the last time I used it, I drove it down the bare gravel road for a mile or so. Then I drained my backup water system and refilled it and replaced filters on the new system. Then I installed a gable vent on the cabin. I have a ridge vent but it is starting to get banged up from clearing snow off of it. So now I won't have to worry about it. Then I loaded the truck up with propane tanks, gas tanks and a couple of weeks of garbage cause I have to go to town tomorrow. I have an appointment with a sadistic lady, a dental hygienist. I have to go to eight or nine places tomorrow, so stay out of my way. The only thing left to do is make a grocery list and put it in the truck so I won't forget it in the morning. I think that "losing it" is contagious.

Don't look at the last picture TT, it's supper tomorrow.

8:am yesterday.

Yesterday I helped Razor clean out the culverts on the Sand Dam road again.

That's the best we could do without a bigger culvert and some gravel.

8: am this morning.

That blurr at the edge of the wavey water is a kingfisher. Hey Kman, I see a dinosaur cloud, do you?

Ok, ok, ok Germaine, you don't have to drive all the way out here just to give me "merd" (spelling?)for missing the blog yesterday. I've been busy. First off, yesterday morning I went to the Lube and Grill for a barley bagel for breakfast. Then Razor and I unplugged two of the three culverts on the road again. The other one is hopelessly plugged and probably needs to be replaced by a bigger one. Then we pulled Richie's boat out of the water. Then Razor pulled Richie out of the ditch. (Don't ask, he says that Berlin was driving, but we know better). THEN, we got to eat a Shirley supper! Ham, scalloped potatoes, and green stuff, and orange stuff too. And then a great big dinner plate of prostitute pie. I was stuffed. If my favorite fouton wasn't already occupied, I would have slept right there. AND, I got a big box of brownies to take home.

Yesterday TT had picked up some milk for me, but....she forgot to give it to me last night.( I think she's losing it) So, this morning I went back to Frasertown. The next thing I know, I'm on the road gang again. After I finally got my milk home, I went out to check my road for fallen trees because of all the wind we had lately. I dropped in to visit the bachelorette down the lake. You won't believe this but I scored some more brownies, butter tarts and date squares! Oh, life is tough on the Tomiko, tough, tough, tough. Oh yeah, LB is doing good.

Stop reading now TT.

Tomorrow night's supper. I would have it tonight but I already had supper defrosted.

Mid night.

8:00 am.

2:00 pm.

A pretty wild night with the snow and winds up to 30 klicks. Still windy today too. I "lost" Kita twice today. Once I found him curled up under the garage and the next time under the A frame. George won't have anything to do with going out side. Today was just a Molly maid day, I had to make sure the uniform will pass inspection.
