Still waters at 6:00am.

Only slush around the last docks this afternoon. The winner of the ice pool to be confirmed by the conveners.

Yesterday morning I went to town. I only got the 4wheeler stuck once in deep, slushy snow on the drive way. That's why you have a winch, Tim. I checked out Linda's on the way to Bedrock.

Fennel's Bay, as seen from the Bedrock causeway.

By the time I got back from town the ice started breaking up. The wind was howling, piling ice up on the shore. Luckily, the wind blew at such an angle that the ice missed our lot.

This morning the dock and boat went in. The navigator kept an eye out for ice pans.

The definition of ice free is that you can take a boat from the boat launch and park at every dock. Every dock is open except for the three at the west end of the lake. As a matter of fact I was standing on a good 6 inches of ice at Linda's dock yesterday.

Tim, fishing season opens May 24 weekend.

Yesterday.

Today.

Not much difference again. The temperature dropped below freezing last night and is only +4 right now.

I'm have to go around the lake tomorrow. We will be all out of dog food after supper tonight. Kita's supper, not ours.

We have seen bald eagles, herons, loons and mergansers this past week.

Poor old Moose passed away Wednesday. He lived a good life all the way to the end. We'll miss him.

Yesterday.

Not much change this morning. Temperature was -1 overnight. Should see a change tomorrow as the high is supposed to be 18C.

Oh yeah, Sis, I just can't wait for bug season. I haven't had a good scratch since last August.

And to the little boy in Harperville who can't update his blog. I hope you got a case of florescent golf balls. It must be golf season 'cause your Blues stunk like disco music.

Happy birthday Charlie Brown.

You will really have to squint to see the otter in this pic. He went from Yammie Swallowing Bay to Wolf Bay. It was funny watching this fellow. He would run 4 or 5 steps and then try to slide. The ice is slushy, so he didn't slide, so he would end up with his butt over his head.

I know I say it every year, but I am still amazed that after all the snow, rain and melting, that the ice "remembers" every snow machine that crossed it.

Yesterday morning along the shore.

Same shot this morning.

So, you probably think that with all the snow that has melted that we are driving in now. Nope, this is the driveway this morning.

Bush chicken in the back yard.

Road runner mode.

Panic mode.

Yesterday I was working on the boat while Grasshopper and Kita went for a walk out the driveway. I heard crunching on the lake. I thought it was a couple of nut bars coming home. When I looked out on the lake, I saw these two moose. They had come around the point from Yammie swallowing bay. They were really close, heading for the ski-doo trail that bypasses my property. By the time that I jumped out of the boat, ran in the house, door slamming, got the camera, ran out of the house, door slamming, they had moved off a bit. They ran in a circle and then headed back into the bush.

The lake is not close to even thinking about opening. The night time temps drop to zero, refreezing what had melted through the day.

We sure have nice weather. I hope it is just as nice somewhere "Chile-er"!

A flock of geese spent the night on the ice.

Saturday we had a visitor. This is him leaving across the lake. I closed my eyes after this so I wouldn't witness him sinking. But, I guess he made it back, at least I didn't hear anything on the radio. This just goes to show how many brains you need to work for NastyPuke!

Woke up this morning to bright sun and -10 degrees. I thought that it might be a good day to go to the Bedrock post office.

It looks like the wolves had a hootenanny on the driveway.

These tracks were along the A5 road. They doesn't really look like bear tracks in the skiff of snow, but I think are based on the distance between the left and right tracks.

The cold temperatures the past couple of days has slowed down the melt. We lost some gravel on the road but it is still passable. I would even drive some one's Audi across the washout.

Wolf poo on the driveway. You can see some hair, moose, I think.

Thursday, April 09, 2009

This morning two wolves crossed the lake. If you squint, you can see them in front of Bedrock.

Here's a zoomed in shot.

A feeder full of red wing black birds, shot through a window and screen.

Around two o'clock the wolves headed back across the lake into yammie swallowing bay. I didn't get the camera in time to get both wolves. Both times, Kita noticed the wolves and was interested, but he stayed home.

We had SUN today! AND there is sun in the forecast for the next six days! Thanks Razor! We owe you big time!

Friday we had 1.25 inches of rain. Saturday we had 6 inches of snow. Yesterday was a dull grey soggy day. Today it is snowing. So how many air mail stamps would it take to send a bad weather magnet to Chile?

Saturday.

This morning.

The Kelly compound reports open water in the narrows. They also report that the river is flowing across the road. Hopefully the sub zero temperatures this week will slow down the snow melt a little.

An early "Happy Birthday" to the young fellow in Harperville. I hope your new lady remembers your present.

That's it for today, I can't waste solar power talking to you.

Wednesday, April 01, 2009

Today is the day that we honor people who are not quite as smart as me. Which includes most of you. Especially a young fellow in Harperville who has used the "L" word in a relationship. I guess they haven't put the "MAN" book on face book yet. Of course there are the fools at Nasty Puke Corporation. I still think of those poor guys every ten or eleven months or so. We can't forget a couple of guys who are digging holes in the ground in the far corners of the world.

Bird brain pics.

A Nuthatch.

We had a red wing black bird at the feeder already. He didn't like to have his picture taken.

A common redpoll.

Still lots of ice on the lake.

Hey Razor, where's your TNT? Oh yeah, it's in the shed collecting mouse droppings.

We have had exactly 1.24 days of sunshine since a young lady returned to Frasertown. This morning I took Grasshopper out to the A5 road on the Ski-Doo-Bee-Doo to meet up with Mrs. Slate for the last trip to town for a few weeks. The lake is not safe to cross and the snow is half melted off the driveway, soon to be impassable by sled or 4wheeler.

I have a hypothetical math question for you. If a certain insect is in an old goat, and the goat was in park, but not, how much bubble wrap would be required to prevent a fiery crash? I know there are many variables to consider, such as the "X" factor and negative ions.
