Friday we had 1.25 inches of rain. Saturday we had 6 inches of snow. Yesterday was a dull grey soggy day. Today it is snowing. So how many air mail stamps would it take to send a bad weather magnet to Chile?

Saturday.

This morning.

The Kelly compound reports open water in the narrows. They also report that the river is flowing across the road. Hopefully the sub zero temperatures this week will slow down the snow melt a little.

An early "Happy Birthday" to the young fellow in Harperville. I hope your new lady remembers your present.

That's it for today, I can't waste solar power talking to you.

Wednesday, April 01, 2009

Today is the day that we honor people who are not quite as smart as me. Which includes most of you. Especially a young fellow in Harperville who has used the "L" word in a relationship. I guess they haven't put the "MAN" book on face book yet. Of course there are the fools at Nasty Puke Corporation. I still think of those poor guys every ten or eleven months or so. We can't forget a couple of guys who are digging holes in the ground in the far corners of the world.

Bird brain pics.

A Nuthatch.

We had a red wing black bird at the feeder already. He didn't like to have his picture taken.

A common redpoll.

Still lots of ice on the lake.

Hey Razor, where's your TNT? Oh yeah, it's in the shed collecting mouse droppings.

We have had exactly 1.24 days of sunshine since a young lady returned to Frasertown. This morning I took Grasshopper out to the A5 road on the Ski-Doo-Bee-Doo to meet up with Mrs. Slate for the last trip to town for a few weeks. The lake is not safe to cross and the snow is half melted off the driveway, soon to be impassable by sled or 4wheeler.

I have a hypothetical math question for you. If a certain insect is in an old goat, and the goat was in park, but not, how much bubble wrap would be required to prevent a fiery crash? I know there are many variables to consider, such as the "X" factor and negative ions.

The weather here has been awesome for the past week or so. One day of flurries, but the rest of the time was great. I hope some little girlie doesn't bring bad weather home with her next week. I got my chores done early today so I took the Ski-Doo-Bee-Doo for a ride out to the A5 road and up to Brule Lake.

A pair of wolf tracks on our driveway.

The wolves walked all the way from the A5 up to our road.

The Notman road at the A5 junction.

The A5 road.

Wolf pee-mail.

There are a couple of trees down on the Notman road, just before the Davis turn off. I'll get them tomorrow.

The bathroom is finally done except for some decorating touches that will wait 'till after slushy season. Grasshopper will post pics on her blog.

On Sunday we went to the Fowler's to celebrate Jose's birthday. It was a beautiful day and we all had cocktails on the patio.

I guess if you live long enough you meet lots of people who send you cards. Or, maybe it's just that Jose is a really nice Lady.

Jose's beautiful table, before we made a mess of it. I seem to have lost my camera after the food was served.

Grasshopper on her way to town this again morning. You will notice that I have taken out the tree line. There is still lots of ice and water on top to lubricate the sliders on the snow machine. Lots and lots of snow in the bush. Daily highs have been around +10, but they are calling for lows the next few nights around -13. But I think that bug season is not too far away. Gotta go and paint the trim in the bathroom, see ya later.

I know that it has been awhile, still stuck in the bathroom doing the reno. Yeah Razor, I know the best way to ruin a camp is to bring in a woman.

Spring has sprung
The grass has ris
I wonder where ...
We might have to wait a week or four to finish that rhyme.

Tuesday/Wednesday we had a rain storm with winds almost up to 100kph. Most of the snow on the lake is gone. Then the temperature fell to -20 and froze everything up solid. The south side of the lake still has some snow on the shore line, but the north side is bare. We are going to the Fowler's on Sunday for a birthday party and we will have to hug the shore.

I know that I have been slow in updates lately, but a certain baby brother hasn't updated since January. Have your megabytes frozen up way there?

And a certain nephew is wasting his time as a Bill Gates minion. Baa Baa.

Gotta run and put on a coat of primer, see ya.

I know that it has been awhile. Been busy shoveling snow. We have had a couple dumpings of snow and one good blizzard. On Friday we had a contest to see who could get their truck stuck on the New Notman road. Every body tied for first place. Some people had soooo much fun that they played again on Saturday. When we have had time, we also worked on the reno job in the bathroom.

Yesterday was the first annual Kelly no fish derby birthday bash. Here too, everybody tied for first place.

Kimo just hates to get his picture taken.

Then it was back to the Kelly compound for eats and birthday cake. L to R, Steph, Dan, Kathleen holding Carma, Den and Kaarina.

Carma enjoys a cup cake.

Kathleen smells her scented candles, just before Grasshopper or Carma threw it on the slate floor.

Kaarina checks out Den's new cordless power tool.

PYROMANIAC ALERT!

My BEST FRIEND, if that ticket wins.

A Little Tomiko Polar Bear.

Happy Birthday Joseph!

Yikes! Thirty two years old. It makes me feel older than my thirty nine year old body can stand.

And a belated Happy birthday to Linda. We won't publish your age because I haven't figured out how to type exponents.

I think that it has been snowing since shortly after 7:30 Monday evening. That figures, right Razor?

Mike, the sled just caught fire while running on the bare ice. The guy with the tracks on the quad is really impressed with them. He says that he drove through snow that was up to his lights.

First of all I hope everybody had a happy Family Day holiday yesterday. Oh, wait now, you folks down home don't get that one. Don't worry, you'll get it some day, probably in about twenty years.

What great weather we've had the past 4 or 5 days. Even people who don't like winter enjoyed the sun and near zero day time temperatures.

Now on to Men's weekend. Great weather, except for not enough snow on the lakes.

It's only fun and games till some one loses a sled. Luckily no one was hurt, but they don't make enough duct tape to fix up this Yamaha.

Saturday every body went for rides. Except for the owner of the Yamaha. Here, we are on the Little Jocko River.

Proof that the only difference between men and boys, is the price of their toys.

It was actually a pretty good turn out for the weekend. But, I heard that North Bay was getting low on roses and chocolates. My partner let me down again. Poor OLD Minky has never won this tournament and I don't know how many more chances he has left. The winners were Dick and Harry, or was it Dave and Harry? I'm pretty sure one of them was a Harry.

Rick, it was nice to hear from you. I hope you had a nice "visit" at the institution on the hill. The one with a fence.

Friday, February 13, 2009

The past two days we have had lots of rain and high temps, washing away all the snow, except for our tree line.

It dropped down to -17 last night, firming everything up.

The movement of the ice has broken the bracing on the dock.

The supervisor, keeping an eye on the traffic on the ice.

This weekend is Men's weekend. You might wonder what happens during this festival. First of all, the women either leave the lake, or try to keep a very low profile. The men do a little sledding, play some cards, have a couple of "pops" and make large amounts of yellow snow. There seems to be a low turn out this year. No doubt this has something to do with Valentine's day tomorrow. This makes it clear who wears the ski-doo pants in those households.

It was about +4 with fog and rain on Saturday. The only thing missing to make me home sick was sewage and condoms floating in Halifax harbour.

Yesterday when the milk lady delivered our milk, she noticed this rabbit sitting under the tree marking the water pump. Kind of strange behavior in the middle of the afternoon. I guess that Mrs. Slate passes her eye test.

Now we can see him.

There he goes!

There goes Grasshopper off to town again. You will notice that she is not riding the Bombardier Recreational Product, or BURP for short. She is not allowed to ride it until I break it in. That might take a little while. Maybe next year.

They are forecasting temps of +7 and +9 for the next couple of days and rain. It might make for slushy conditions for Men's weekend.

Monday, February 02, 2009

Yesterday was an odd day weather wise. Sun blasting through holes in the clouds, and then five minutes later, almost pitch black dark. And lots of wind. The ski-doo tracks were buried one minute and two feet deep the next.

Today is an awesome solar day. Temp is about -6.

Grasshopper and TT have gone to the Lunar Excursion Module testing grounds to visit TTSK and do some shopping. Since Inco built their super stack, and all their smog goes to Texas, I have heard that Sudbury now has a tree.

Today I finished up a little wiring job at Vic and Jane's. The next project is to figure out what to have for supper and try to remember how to use a stove.
